Fr. Anthony with Tony, and Cristina discuss the season of Lent, today, with a focus on prayer. Using a little book, “Bible Basics for Catholics”, Father begins his focus on prayer during Lent, laying the ground work with a look at the word ‘covenenat’; what is a covenant?  He continues with introducing the Five Dispositions of Prayer.  Join Father Anthony through the Season of Lent as we focus on prayer to nurture our relationship with God and hopefully grow in our intimacy with Him.

Lauretta host today with a potpourri of items to discuss. She tells us about the latest HotSpot of Syria experiencing clashes with reported civilian casualties, 143 confirmed fatalities. Then she focuses on Lent sharing the 3 Pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.  She breaks down the fasting requirements and heeds us to use common sense above all for the elderly and the young-taking the opportunity to invite the young to join in fasting and use it as a teaching moment. Lauretta shares activities that we can participate in during Lent and directs us to check church bulletins for those near us and encourages us to become closer to God during Lent. She ends the show with a list of government spending that was sent by the Federal Government.

Anthony with Tony, and Cristina discuss the season of Lent.  Share their observations of the morning and evening masses of Ash Wednesday, which were both very well attended, actually very crowded! Why is this mass the most packed of the year?  They share their theories as to why that is….Father leads us in prayer, especially for the Pope, recognizing that as we pray for him, we are praying for the church. After prayer, Father revisits the question of Atheism and shares history and the evolution of lent and the origin of the word ‘lent” itself. Central focus of Lent is fasting, why is that?

Welcome to a Brain Wrinkling Wednesday with Fr. Tom Koys.  Today he reminds us that while Lent is a season of foregoing, giving something up…to do so in the right attitude is to give up something beautiful of the world so you can go back to enjoying it after Easter.  Foregoing in the proper spirit should be a way to prepare yourself for something better: namely Jesus.

Today is Fat Tuesday, otherwise known as Paczki Day (pronounced “puhnch-kee’: is a Polish pastry). Get one before giving up sweets for lent! Today Fr. Anthony with Tony, and Cristina catch up on what’s going on at the parish, the school, the world, offering ongoing prayers for Pope Francis. After prayer, Father revisits the readings from this past Sunday and leads us into conversation regarding the warnings that are being raised about the state of our world, climate, society, religion and the church.  Are we at Armageddon?

Today Lauretta hosts the program and opens with a little history on the saint of the day, St. Katharine Drexel and her wonderful works.  She reminds us Lent begins on Wednesday and calls on us to receive our ashes and wear them proudly and offers prayers for Pope Francis and his recovery.  As she is joined by her guest, Maria Martina Maldonado, author of the book, “Between Love and Grief: A Mother’s Journey after Teen Suicide”.  They talk about this troubling ill and bring to light potential signs that can potentially signal there’s trouble brewing.  As Maria shares her daughter’s and her story, she focuses on helping others and encourages one to seek help and to not be afraid to ask the very difficult question “have you had suicidal thought?” Maria Martina Maldonado welcomes you to reach out to her; share your story, ask questions.  She welcomes book orders directly and is available to join your book club or present for your group. TGIF with Fr. Anthony, Tony, and Cristina.  Father shares the Vatican’s update regarding Pope Francis.  Father initiates the discussion today with his recent engagement with the school’s students, connecting it to the days reading; asking the students to reflect on their class and their family to consider if they observe proper behavior to living a Christian life.  Christina and Tony consider the question posed by Father “what is the soul”? As they have a discussion regarding the soul vs the spirit and living a righteous life.

Happy Tuesday! Today Fr. Anthony with Tony, and Cristina regroup to catch up on what’s going on at the parish, the school, the world.  They remind us that Lent is just one week away and shares some ideas regarding what they’ll give up for lent. Father leads us in prayer and they offer prayers for Pope Francis.  Father discusses the contradictory nature of Jesus and asks us, why is He contradictory?  Father goes over the Sunday readings and they chat regarding what God commands and remind us that it’s not easy but we have to stay true and not let emotions lead us.

Lauretta hosts the program and is joined by her guest, Joyce Duriga, Editor of the Chicago Catholic, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Chicago.  They offer prayers for Pope Francis and encourage everyone to pray the rosary for him.  They discuss the protocols that must be followed, should the Pope pass on to better life.  There is a nine day period of mourning known as Novemdiales. The Vatican follows specific steps that must be taken; solemn, sacred and beautiful process to ensure the stability and continuity in the Catholic Church.  They also chat regarding the Installations of New Auxiliary Bishops.
